Grad Profile: Lexy Khoo

Lexi Khoo

When did you first discover an interest in advertising?

The last two years of my degree (Bachelor Degree in Graphic Design). I realized that I was extremely interested in finding out why people are motivated to take action and how to create a campaign that is media/creative agnostic to encourage them to take action.

Why did you choose Sheridan?

To be honest, it was meant to be. I walked into an Education Fair in Penang, Malaysia and Sheridan was there. This was the case of Sheridan being at the right place and at the right time.

What did you learn from Sheridan?

While I always knew I love advertising, I find it hard picturing myself working in Account Services or the Creative department. Sheridan presented a brand new route of how I could pursue a career in Advertising via Media Strategy and Planning.

What was the #1 thing you took away from your post grad experience?

As an international student, it was a great way to introduce me to the Canadian Advertising Industry. I was reasonably prepared when I found my first job (despite being the first batch of graduates from this program). I understand most of the basics (PMB - VIVIDATA now, GRPs, Reach & Frequency, etc.)

What advice would you give to someone who is considering a post grad program?

I took the program because I wanted to learn more about the advertising industry in Canada. As I came from a design background, a steep learning curve was required. For those that are considering, the best advice I can give is to keep an open mind. Listen and absorbed as much as you can.

How has the completion of the program affected your career?

I felt prepared and excelled pretty quickly as I had already learned the basics.

Where do you work and what is your current position?

Currently, I work at Cossette Media as a Media Supervisor.

What is your favourite part of the job?

What I like the most is the opportunity to learn about new and emerging technologies. The industry changes so quickly, and I find it fascinating.
