Grad Profile: Alexandra St. Pierre

Alexandra St. Pierre

When did you first discover an interest in Advertising?

It’s funny, my decision to pursue advertising came at a crossroads in my life. I just finished art school and had no real desire to be an artist. I had no idea which direction to take my life. While I was watching an episode of Friends, Chandler was in a similar position and Monica had organized files with different careers that he could explore. The first and last file he looked at was Advertising! I thought to myself, what an amazing way to stay creative in my career! I found the Advertising Account Management program at Sheridan the next day!

Why did you choose Sheridan?

My brother and several friends attended Sheridan and raved about it for years. I found it intriguing, since I would never really ‘rave’ about the education I received for my BFA. Once enrolled I immediately fell in love with my classmates, my teachers and the campus. Sheridan is a truly inclusive environment and the teachers care about your success just as much as you do!

What did you learn from Sheridan?

So much. I think the most important thing I learned from Sheridan wasn’t about how to do my job, but how to GET a job. Something no one ever bothered to teach me in University.

Where was your co-op placement?

My co-op placement was with a small start-up company in downtown Toronto. It was extremely hands-on and I was able to wear a lot of hats. I’m sure if I had taken a placement at a larger agency I would not gain as much experience as I did.

What did you learn from your co-op placement?

I learned time-management, how to execute a social media plan and I was able to gain a great deal of leadership experience.

What was the #1 thing you took away from your post grad experience?

YOU ARE EMPLOYABLE AND YOU WILL GET A JOB! Keep your chin up and keep trying. You’re going to be great!

What advice would you give to someone who is considering a post grad program?

Do it. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

How has the completion of the Program affected your career?

I have been promoted, offered a raise, and moved on to a new company since completing this program. I’m happy and successful. I’m finally in a place where I don’t have to moonlight as a server at a restaurant! Everything I’ve accomplished I have done with the knowledge I gained from my time at Sheridan.

Where do you work and what is your current position?

I currently work at the Canadian Digestive Health Foundation as a Marketing Coordinator.

What is your favourite part of the job?

I get to be creative every day. I design everything from social media posts to cycling jerseys for our RISE fundraising events, emails, event banners and invitations. I also have a very hands on role in their digital advertising campaigns, and have been made responsible for building our AdWords strategy.
