When did you first discover an interest in Advertising?
I had an interest when I was growing up about the relationship advertising had into the path of purchase but didn’t really understand the levels of how it happened. Why did you choose Sheridan?
For me, the
driving factor was the post-graduate program only being a yearlong before you
could enter the job market and the fact that it touched on all facets of
advertising was a big advantage.
What did you learn from Sheridan?
It’s tough
to focus on one main point, but the strengths of the program are how many
different directions you can go into in Advertising. For the uneducated
consumer, advertising itself stands alone, but once you learn more about it there are so many layers, from account services to creative to media etc.
What was the #1 thing you took away from your post grad experience?
For me, it
was the ability to talk about a brand, where they should advertise and why. I
liked the strategy portion of advertising and still do, which is why I’ve
remained in media for all these years!
What advice would you give to someone who is considering a post grad program?
Sheridan, HMC |
Be
open-minded. I remember most people in the program joined because they were all
creative and everyone wanted to create the next big idea. Once the program
ended I felt like a fraction of the students ended up going the creative route
because they opened themselves up to what else was out there.
How has the completion of the Program affected your career?
If it
wasn’t for the program, I wouldn’t have the career I do now. I was able to
secure a job before the program even ended and the skills I acquired at
Sheridan were necessary for that.
Where do you work and what is your current position?
I currently
work on the FCA account and UM Canada as a digital strategist. I started my
career in TV investments and switched over last year to further my skill set in
media.
What is your favourite part of the job?
I love
where I work so the relationships I’ve build in media are certainly a big
asset. That being said, I love being able to put a plan in front of client and
see their excitement for something I created……also a huge sports fan so tickets
to games certainly don’t hurt 😊
